Save the date: I4C webinar is helping us (better) communicate uncertain climate information

Why a workshop (and why now)?
Climate change is altering extreme weather events around us, making events such as the European heatwave 2026 more likely and intense. And still, it can be hard for us to accurately understand the pace and scale of these changes. Climate information (e.g. extreme event attribution studies, climate projections) can help people to better understand this. Due imprecise, conflicting and lacking evidence, such climate information comes with uncertainty. Climate scientists and climate risk communicators must stay true to the underlying while communicating uncertain climate information so that people understand it.
In this webinar, researchers from the I4C project will present novel insights on people’s understanding of changing extreme weather events and on the communication of uncertain climate information. Following the presentations, workshop participants will get to discuss guidelines for communicating uncertain climate science in interactive groups.
Objectives
- Following the extremes of summer 2026, citizens and local authorities need to understand uncertainty to better understand (and make use of) climate information
- I4C has new findings of two papers/manuscripts
- It is important to develop guidelines for communicating (uncertain) climate information
Target audience
The webinar targets climate scientists and practitioners who communicate (uncertain) climate information: Researchers working in I4C and other EU-funded research projects, adaptation actors (e.g. from the ICLEI network), and study participants who indicated to be interested in study results. The workshop is also open to other interested profiles who would like to discuss and validate recommendations that may help other cities and stakeholders in Europe make use of them.
What’s on the agenda?
- Introduction to Impetus4Change
- Presentation of insights of two novel studies
- Presentation of guidelines for communicating uncertain climate information
- Discussion and revision of guidelines in interactive groups
