Expert workshop on heat and health in the Barcelona metropolitan area
In late November, the BSC I4C team, in partnership with the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) and 300,000 Km/s, hosted an expert workshop focused on heat and health. The event brought together approximately 40 local stakeholders, including representatives from various levels of local government and public agencies, academics from local universities and research institutes, and members of public and third-sector organizations actively working to enhance urban and societal resilience to the health impacts of extreme heat.
The meeting began with six presentations from leaders in the fields of “on-the-ground action”, “research and investigation” and “involving the public”. After a quick coffee break, the participants were reorganised to brainstorm the same themes individually in a world cafe with stops at each theme. In the presentations and teamwork sessions, the focus was on identifying and sharing what knowledge and action is already being taken on these issues by the different actors, what each could offer to potential collaborations, and ideas for what we should do together in the future.
This was an opportunity for the participants to see some familiar faces and make new connections in this attempt to bring together experts and enthusiasts in climate adaptation and health experts.
Reflecting on the climate and health themes, the session finished with a vegan networking lunch.
The BSC team is synthesizing the hundreds of post-it notes gathered in a cohesive document to share with the attendees, hopefully inspiring future collaborations.
The team also plans to invite many attendees to participate in the Meet the Society segment of the second I4C Adaptalab, with the potential for a follow-up workshop — stay tuned for updates.
Speaking of the Adaptalab, there’s still time to register!
