Adaptalab: Shaping Future Climate Services in Paris

The first Impetus4Change Adaptalab was held recently at the Academie du Climat in Paris from November 29 to December 1, 2023. The event is the first of a series of events that will bring together participants from diverse sectors and disciplines to address real-world climate challenges through innovation and collaboration.

Over the 3 days, participants were given the objective of crafting mock-ups for climate services which could then be realized within the I4C project. Before doing this, the participants were given some contextual information in the form of a series of presentations about Impetus4Change (I4C) and delving deeper into the different climate challenges in the Demonstrator cities. The presentations also served as a potential source of inspiration for the next two days when they worked closely with people from their cities and other cities to find ways to communicate climate data and information.

On Day 2, the working groups delved into the format, content, target audience, visual presentation, and overall usability of their climate service. This rigorous process ensures that I4C’s climate services are not only cutting-edge but also practical and effective in meeting the diverse needs of their intended users.

The Adaptalab also provided a unique opportunity for participants to establish connections across the broader I4C community as well as work on meaningful collaboration between working groups. The working groups were structured in a way in which they would include both a mix of professionals from a qualitative and quantitative science perspective, as well as people actively involved in their municipality or from the private sector.
